About ITAA's Public Sector Group

The ITAA Government Program is a portal to doing business in the federal, state and local markets. Companies with an interest in government procurement flock to this division, either to help influence policy trends and directions or as a means to assess the impact that procurement changes may have on their business.

Understanding better the often arcane nuances of procurement law and regulation are only a small part of the Government Program’s overall benefits. From a policy perspective, ITAA is hard at work helping companies pursue their interests in areas like identity management, health and human services, national security and defense.

Operating through an extensive schedule of regular monthly committee meetings, ITAA provides companies with a “seat at the table” to help shape industry positions, gain background information, hearing from high ranking government officials on a range of relevant topics. More granular issues and activities are undertaken at the task force level, with policy specialists in particular areas working together to advance the industry’s agenda.

With the work of committees and task groups in hand, ITAA is able to provide an in-depth industry perspective on a range of issues through official comments and letters to Congress, the Office of Management and Budget, the General Services Administration, state legislatures and other bodies. ITAA also shares its views on issues in frequent testimony before Congress.

The Government Program provides regular opportunities for customer interaction. While government procurement rules often make one-on-one meetings with companies difficult, interaction with ITAA gives government and industry executives an important channel of communication. The Government Program builds out this channel with regularly scheduled dinners, topical conferences and seminars, the annual Federal CIO Survey and other means.

Recent accomplishments of the Government Program include:

  • A substantive industry seminar on intelligence reform featuring Charles Robb, Co-Chairman of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission
  • A major conference and in-depth white paper on identity management
  • Participation on the Department of Transportation’s drivers license standards body
  • A Silicon Valley event featuring Navy CIO David Wennergren
  • Substantial comments, a member survey and lobbying Congress on security clearance reform process
  • Developed initiative pro
