Innovation is the heart of America’s economic strength. In no industry is that more manifest than in IT. In order to assure our nation’s place as a leading innovator, accessibility must be assured for the disabled, government policies must support, rather than drive away, research and development, industry and government must learn to understand new business models such as open source software development and new technologies, such as RFID and nanotechnology must be left uninhibited by heavy taxation and onerous regulation.
The ITAA Emerging Technology Program focuses on technical areas that hold particular promise for a large cross-section of member companies. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a good example. RFID has been labeled one of the fastest growing segments in supply-chain efficiency, with applications spanning multiple industries. RFID adoption is rapidly becoming an important factor for many industries today with companies such as Wal-Mart and organizations such as the US Department of Defense indicating strong commitment to quick and widespread RFID implementations.
The ITAA Emerging Technology Program concentrates on other wireless technologies as well, including Wi-Fi and WiMax. The proliferation of IP-enabled networks is pushing intelligence to the edge of the network. This trend, along with advances in areas such as battery life, device interoperability, spectrum availability, and machine to machine communication, will mean new horizons for information technology companies and customers.
Participants in the Emerging Technology Program work to help new markets develop and to identify new opportunities for profitable growth.
Goals and objectives of the Emerging Technology Program are to:
Program activities include conferences, webcasts, analyst briefings and more.
