Every year, Deloitte studies popular changes or additions to technology that can be put to real use. Their “Technology Trends” report contains the findings and in 2012, focuses on several different issues. Some of the highlights include information on social business, gamification (integrating games into day-to-day company processes), the use of hyper-hybrid cloud systems, increasing digital identities, and utilizing geospatial visualization, among many others.

Deloitte analyzes patterns in business technology in order to put together their annual report, and they suggest that the trends they find will be relevant for the next 18 to 24 months. This year, the report was divided into two sections: “Disruptors” and “Enablers”. Disruptors are innovations to IT that are anticipated to create a positive disruption to current business models, and enablers are pre-existing technologies that have recently undergone upgrades or changes that will affect how they are used in the future.
