Is a New Domain Suffix Right for Your Business?

After the announcement that the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) was releasing hundreds of new domain suffixes, many big businesses began fighting for rights to the new URLs.  As the initial rush has died down and the rolling out of new names continues, small businesses are left wondering whether or not this type of investment is right for them.

The cost for one of these new domains is quite expensive, so business owners typically feel that the suffix needs to really reflect the purpose of their business. Although critics argue that the transition will be confusing, supporters say that once the initial confusion has passed, these domains will be extremely valuable.  At this point, it is up to each individual business owner’s financial stability and marketing plan whether or not they purchase a new domain suffix, though the future months may bring even more changes to the top-level domain debate.
